Libero Option to Serve for both Girls and Boys – ALL age groups
Starting with this season, the Libero will be allowed to serve in
all junior USAV Great Lakes Region sanctioned competition. Initially this
exception (the Libero being allowed to serve) was made only for junior
girls, but after much consideration USAV Great Lakes Region expanded this
exception to allow ALL Liberos in Junior Great Lakes Region sanctioned
events the option to serve.
Rationale:
- allowing this exception for all juniors (girls and boys) eliminates
the gender equity issue (the IHSA allows the Libero to serve)
- 14 & under boys may compete in Great Lakes Region USAV girls’
tournaments when they enter the 15 and over divisions; this expanded
exception allows for equity in those divisions and competitions.
The Great Lakes Region is also instituting a new
warm-up protocol; the time frame will be 2–4–4 for all junior competition.
