Milestone Season for Energy VBC!!

27 Wins, 95 Playoff Appearances in 2009–2010 Season

Energy VBC teams have shattered last season’s record-setting 18 wins (including wins at Qualifiers). We have 27 wins for the 2009–2010 season — 50% more wins than the 2008–2009 season. Even more impressively, Energy VBC teams have notched 95 playoff appearances for the 2009–2010 season! Congratulations to this 2009–2010 season’s outstanding group of student-athletes and their coaches for reaching this impressive Energy VBC milestone and setting the bar so high for next season’s 2010–2011 Energy VBC teams!!

Energy VBC student-athletes Maddie Beyl, Megan Harford, Kate Harney, Olga Kutkovska, Lauren LaGioia, Aundrea Martinez, Jamie Short, Monique Tan, and Angie Walinski (Energy ‘09–‘10 18 Blue girls’ volleyball team) and Deanna Vasilopoulos (Energy ‘09–‘10 17 Lime girls’ volleyball team) all were mentioned in a recent Pioneer Press article, datelined 8/2/10 and published in the Morton Grove Champion, highlighting Megan Hartford and the upcoming girls’ volleyball season. The article also highlights the accomplishments of the Energy ‘09–‘10 18 Blue girls’ volleyball team. Congratulations girls!

Energy Beach Teams
Finish Strong

The USA Beach Junior Tour was in town July 31st for the North Coast Open. Energy was well represented at the event, taking home a 3rd and 5th place finish in the 18U division. Jordyn Toia (17U – Blue) and her partner Nicole Moy (Niles West H.S.) finished 3rd overall in the division and also earned a trip to the USA Beach Junior Tour Championship in Fort Lauderdale, FL. The team will travel to Florida in August and plans to provide Energy VBC with another strong finish in the National Tournament.

Danielle Babich (17U – Blue) and Peyton Pritikin (17U – Blue) teamed together and also had a strong finish in the North Coast Open, finishing 5th overall in the 18U division. Great job girls!!!

    

Energy Beach Teams Come Out Strong!

Emmi Carr and Amber Noncz won the EVP Splash of Summer Tournament in the U14 Girls’ Division.

Jake Carr and Nick Langas took second in the U14 Boys’ Division.

Troy Farsakian (Boys’ 16 Blue) Honored by Glenbrook South High School

Troy Farsakian (Energy VBC Boys’ 16 Blue) was honored this past week by the Glenbrook South High School Volleyball Program. Varsity Head Coach Tim Monahan awarded the Junior Varsity standout with the coveted Bryan Paynter Team Award, which is presented to an athlete that displays countless acts of leadership on and off the court, strong sportsmanship throughout the season, and strong desire/heart to be a Titan of Glenbrook South.

Energy VBC is proud to have Troy as a part of the Energy family. Congradulations to Troy and the Farsakian family for this impressive accomplishment!!

Lauren LaGioia (Girls’ 18 Blue) Signs with University of Wisconsin — Parkside

Senior Lauren LaGioia, Outside Hitter on Energy VBC’s Girls’ 18 Blue, has signed a letter of intent to play at Division II power house University of Wisconsin — Parkside. Lauren finished a senior season at Niles West as team MVP and turned an off season of hard work and training into a successful Club season.

Lauren has played 2 seasons of club volleyball with Energy VBC, both as a 6-rotation Outside Hitter. In the 2008–2009 season, she led her team in kills, attempts, hitting percentage, digs and passing. In the 2009–2010 season, she led her team in kills, was second in attempts, second in digs, and third in hitting percentage. Her leadership on and off the court helped lead her 18 Blue team to 4 tournament victories, and a 15th place finish in the Silver bracket at the Kansas City USAV National Qualifier.

Lauren will compete for a starting outside hitter position as an incoming freshman on a young Parkside team. Lauren is pursuing a career as a Physician Assistant.

Angie Walinski (Girls’ 18 Blue) Commits to Carthage College

Senior Angie Walinski, Outside Hitter and Co-Captain of Energy VBC’s Girls’ 18 Blue, has chosen to play the 2010–2011 season at Carthage College in Wisconsin. Angie finished off a great high school career at Niles North with multiple all conference and team MVP awards.

Angie has played 2 years of Club volleyball both with Energy and has been a leader on and off the court. Her work ethic has developed her from a front row specialist to a 6-rotation player. She helped lead her 18 Blue team to 4 tournament victories, a 15th place finish in the Silver bracket at the Kansas City Qualifier, while leading the team in digs, attempts and kills.

Angie will have the opportunity to compete for a starting Outside Hitter position for Carthage’s Top 5 Division III program while studying Health Science.

3 Energy VBC Teams Qualify for 2010 USAV Nationals in Reno, Nevada!

Congratulations to Girls’ 13 Blue, Girls’ 13 Lime, and Girls’ 12 Blue! All three Energy VBC girls’ volleyball teams won American bids to the 2010 USAV Nationals being held the last week of June in Reno, Nevada. Preliminary information on Nationals participation for parents and players here.

2 More Energy VBC Teams Make Strong Qualifier Showings

Girls’ 17 Blue placed 20th out of a strong field of 59 teams and Girls’ 18 Blue placed 15th out of a field of 34 teams at the Kansas City Show Me Qualifier tournament held 4/30–5/2. Both teams made it to the Silver Division.

Congratulations to Energy VBC Girls’ 17 Blue, who took 3rd place at the Sunsetters Club Volleyball Tournament on 5/23. This was their 9th playoff appearance of the 2009–2010 season!

Energy VBC Teams Notch 2nd Win & 7th Playoff at Palos Courts This Season

Congratulations to Energy VBC Girls’ 14 Blue, who took 1st Place at the Palos Courts Club Volleyball Tournament on 5/16. This was Girls’ 14 Blue’s 3rd win and 8th playoff appearance this season!

Congratulations also to Reno-bound Energy VBC Girls’ 13 Blue, who placed 3rd playing against some older teams at the Palos Courts 13/14u Club Volleyball Tournament on 5/16. This was Girls’ 13 Blue’s 4th playoff appearance this season.

Girls’ 13 Lime & Girls’ 14 Lime Make Playoffs Again

Kudos to Reno-bound Energy VBC Girls’ 13 Lime, who finished strong in the playoffs among an all 14u field at the Asics®/Mikasa Club Volleyball Tournament on 5/16. This was Girls’ 13 Lime’s 5th playoff appearance this season.

Kusos also to Energy VBC Girls’ 14 Lime, who took 2nd place at the Illinois Heat Club Volleyball Tournament on 5/16. This was Girls’ 14 Lime’s 6th playoff appearance this season.

Congratulations to Girls’ 12 White for taking 2nd Place at the Illinois Heat Club Volleyball Tournament this past weekend (5/9), taking the Finals to 3 games! This was the 4th Top 3 finish this season for Girls’ 12 White!

Kudos also to Girls’ 15 Blue, who finished first among the 15u teams at the Palos Courts 15/16 Club Volleyball Tournament, making it to the tournament semifinals. This was the 3rd playoff appearance this season for Girls’ 15 Blue!

Energy VBC Teams Notch 80th & 81st Playoff Appearances This Season

Congratulations to Girls’ 12 Lime, who took 2nd Place at the Kid Power Club Volleyball Tournament this past weekend (4/24) for their 3rd Top 3 finish of the season.

Congratulations also to Girls’ 17 Blue for winning the Silver Bracket of the Fusion Challenge Invitational Club Volleyball Tournament on 4/24 for their 8th playoff appearance of the season. Short-handed due to health and injury, Girls’ 17 Blue still managed to turn in their most dynamic performance of the season, competing against and defeating some of the strongest teams in the Midwest. The team plans to build on this momentum when they travel to Kansas City for the “Show Me” Qualifier next week.

Another Win, 4 More Top 3 Finishes by Energy VBC

Energy VBC teams won another tournament, along with three other top 3 finishes last weekend and an appearance at the Mizuno Northern Lights Qualifier in Minneapolis, Minnesota, continuing to build upon a milestone season for Energy Volleyball!

Congratulations to Girls’ 12 Blue, who rolled to their 5th tournament win this season!

Kudos also to Girls’ 15 Lime and Girls’ 14 White, who each earned their 2nd top 3 finish of fhe season.

Girls’ 14 Blue travelled to Minneapolis, Minnesota where they placed 35th in the Mizuno Northern Lights Qualifier.

3 Energy VBC Student-Athletes Make USAV High Performance Team!

Aleks Glass, Peter Rafalo, and Charley Tisch (Energy VBC Boys’ 16 Blue) both make USA Volleyball High Performance 16u Team! The USA Volleyball High Performance Program provides top young volleyball players with world-class training and competition. Congratulations to Alex, Charley, and Peter for this impressive accomplishment!!

Aleks (left photo), Charley (middle photo) and Peter (right photo) were both members of the Energy VBC 16 Blue boys’ volleyball team, which won 4 tournaments and chalked up 5 top 3 finishes over the recently completed ‘09–‘10 boys’ club volleyball season. Aleks will also be starting on his Lincoln Park High School Varisty volleyball team.

Girls’ 18 Blue took 1st Place at the Asics®/Mikasa Club Volleyball Tournament on 2/13.

In addition, Boys’ 15 Blue finished 10th out of a field of 30 club volleyball teams at the Molten Fine Design 15u Open Qualifier Tournament, 2/13-14.

Great job by all boys on their strong Qualifier play. It was a tough weekend of competition and great to be part of it.

Boys’ 16 Blue & 14 Blue Teams on the Rise

Congratulations to Energy VBC 16 Blue boys’ volleyball team, coached by Assistant Director Allen Adams, on notching their second win for the 2009–2010 club volleyball season. Energy VBC Boys’ 16 Blue won the Energy North Side Club Volleyball Tournament — 12/6/2009.

Our congratulations also go to Energy VBC 14 Blue boys’ volleyball team, coached by Cheech Patel, who captured second place at the Circus Club Volleyball Tournament — 12/6/2009.

Adult Tournament Hosted at Energy Sports Complex

The Adult Competitive Power Co-Ed (teams of four men and two women) Tournament hosted at Energy Sports Complex Saturday, 11/14 was a resounding success. Sixteen competitive adult teams competed in two playoff pools. Energy VBC Coach Shane Green’s team emerged as the overall winner of the tournament.

The tournament, organized by Energy VBC’s Coach Green, raised money for the Hitch Chicago Public School PE program.

Assistant Club Director Wins at University of Northern Iowa Invitational

DePaul Blue Demons Mens' Volleyball Team Wins UNI TournamentDePaul University earns their first volleyball tournament win in years, led by Energy VBC’s very own Coach Sopocy playing Setter. The Depaul University Blue Demons Mens’ Volleyball team dominated the talented field of 12 at the 2nd annual UNI (University of Northern Iowa) Invitational.

Coach Mike recorded more than 150 assists over the one-day tournament.

2009–2010 Season Underway!

Energy VBC has now completed our tryouts for the 2009–2010 Volleyball Season. We would like to say THANK YOU to all 475+ athletes that participated. We will be home to 25 teams competing at an Elite level this season and look forward to seeing everyone on the courts. Let’s get this “Road to Nationals” started!!!

Great Competition at Boys’ Tryouts!

We would like to thank all of the boys who came out for our program. A very competitive group of over 100 players who gave us their best efforts gave us a lot of tough decisions to make. We wish everyone the best of luck and hope to see those who are not at Energy on the courts throughout the season. Congratulations to all the boys who have made the Energy Club! We are looking forward to a strong, victorious season!!

Energy Athlete News

Derek Goldstein’s 7th grade volleyball team (Maple School) came in 1st place in the Glenview/Northbrook tournament on 4/9 pitting the two top teams from Glenview and the two top teams from Northbrook. Derek’s team finished their season with a perfect 15–0 record! Derek (Energy ‘09–‘10 14 Blue boys’ volleyball team) played setter and right side hitter.
