Roger Ozima
Coach, Girls’
Coach Ozima has been coaching junior girls’ and boys’
volleyball for 23 years. Among his club volleyball
accomplishments, his 2000 Dragons 17 Black team qualified for
USA Volleyball (USAV) Girls’ Junior Olympics Nationals. His 2004 Adversity 18
Smurfs won the 2004 Asics® Junior National 18 Club division.
Coach Ozima was a College of Lake County assistant
coach from 2002 to 2003. Under his leadership over a 2-year
period, his team turned around from a 7–28 record to a 2003 39–6
record and a national ranking
of #6. That team had a 37-match winning streak in 2003.
He was named as Head Coach for the 2004 season. He coached 3
NJCAA All-Americans and 10 All-Conference players during his 4
years College of Lake County. Coach Ozima was named 2004 Skyway
Conference Rookie Coach of the Year for winning the school’s
first back-to-back conference titles in 17 years.
Coach Ozima was an assistant coach at Barat College in 1998
that helped turn around a program that was “O” for the
‘80’s and most of the ‘90’s into making their conference playoffs for the
first time ever. He also helped turn a former high school middle
hitter into a two time conference “Setter of the Week”.
In addition to his vast volleyball coaching experience, Coach
Ozima has played volleyball for over 21 years from grammar
school to USAV men’s BB teams. He has played both setter
and outside hitter positions. He is also a USA National Referee,
USA National Scorekeeper (International Qualified), USA
Certified Outdoor Referee, Professional Association of
Volleyball Officials (PAVO) National Referee, IHSA Certified
Referee, and is on the USA National Scorekeeper rating team. He
voluntieers as a Special Olympics referee. Coach Ozima also is on
staff at the Mayor Daley WinterFest, Asics®
Jr. Nationals, and USA Boys Jr. Olympic Championships. In
addition, he has served as the National Junior College Athletic
Association (NJCAA) Region 4 Volleyball Chairman for
past 5 years. Coach Ozima has previously served
on the Great Lakes Region Executive Committee as the Scorekeeper
Chairman and as a men’s player representative. He was previously
awarded the Great Lakes Region Meritorious Service Award in
1991.
Coach Ozima holds both USAV IMPACT and American Sport
Education Program (ASEP) certifications. He also has been USAV
CAP I certified.
This is Coach Ozima’s second year coaching at Energy
VBC. His extensive resume of club volleyball coaching
experience includes 8 years at Northside VBC (16u & 18u); 7
years at Dragons (16u, 17u (went to Nationals in 2000), &
18u); one year at Ace, Point, Match (15u); 6 years at Adversity
girls (18u (won Asics in 2004), 14u, & 16u); and one year at
Northside Out (15u).
