Nick Spano
Coach, Girls’
15
Surge Jade
Coach Spano started playing volleyball in his freshman year of high
school and hasn’t stopped every since. He played every position in high school, but
was mainly an outside hitter. Coach Spano led the first ever Gordon Tech High
School
volleyball team to the boys’ program’s first Regional playoff game.
Coach Spano has had a
passion for coaching ever since high school and decided to start a
volleyball personal trainer business while entering his freshman year of
college. He transferred to Southern Illinois University and played as a
setter on the men’s club team, while he majored in business marketing and continued
as a volleyball personal trainer. He held camps for youth, college students,
and adults during the off-season and he is still looking for ways to give
volleyball back to the community.
Coach Spano moved back to Chicago to coach at
his Alma Mater, Gordon Tech High School. As Head Coach, he coached the freshman girls’ team to third place in the
GCAC — the first time ever for a freshman team there. As JV Assistant Coach, he coached the girls’ JV
team to 2nd place and assisted the girls’ Varsity team to a first place win and a
Regional championship. Returning as Varsity Head Coach, he coached the girls’ Varsity team back to the regional
game the following season. Coach Spano has also coached in Gordon Tech’s boys’ program as the JV Head
Coach and as a Varsity Assistant Coach.
Coach Spano started coaching club volleyball in
2009 and is very happy to be welcomed to the Energy family.
Coach Spano is always available
for individual lessons and position training. Players and parents may
contact him directly via email or cell.
