Mike Sopocy
Coach Sopocy brings 15 years of playing experience to
Energy VBC. In high school he played for Glenbrook
South High School, Sports Performance VBC, and TNT VBC.
He went on to play 4 years on the Bowling Green State
University Club Team. His club team ranked in the top 25 of
NIRSA and participated in NIRSA Volleyball nationals all four
years.
Coach Sopocy played every position, however his primary
position is setter and right side. He has over 11 years of
experience in setting and 6 years in right side play.
He has over 9 years’ experience coaching; including coaching
of the women’s Bowling Green State University (BGSU) Club team
(nationals three straight years finishing 25th, 45th, and 5th in
the nation), volunteer assistant for BGSU varsity team
(finishing second in the MAC), and coach of the men’s BGSU club
team (leading them to nationals two straight years, finishing
7th in the nation both years). He also was a volunteer assistant
coach for the women’s Cleveland State University Varsity team.
In 2009, Coach Mike joined the Glenbrook South High School
Coaching Staff as the Boys’ Freshman A Coach and led the team to
a conference championship.
Coach Mike regularly participates in camps, clinics, school
programs and events looking to enrich the sport of volleyball in
the Chicagoland area.
Coach Mike also volunteers within the Chicago Public School
System, providing free volleyball clinics to get kids interested
in the sport.
Coach Mike is one of the recruiting professionals at Energy
VBC, looking to provide opportunities for Energy players to play
in college at all levels.
This is Coach Sopocy’s fourth season at Energy VBC. Following successful seasons coaching Girls’ 16 Lime
in 2008–2009, Girls’ 17 Blue in 2009–2010, and Girls’ 18 Rox in 2010–2011, Coach Mike has high
expectations for all Energy VBC teams this season.
Coach Mike is a certified IHSA official and also is in the
process of receiving certification for USAV official.
Coach Sopocy is
an Energy VBC owner and is
Girls’ Program Director.
